Library Seating Pod

Cumbrian school Vickers Park required some new, contemporary seating for their Library. Designed and made by Childs & Co in 2011.

Contemporary Design

Solid wood

Circular build

Made for a new primary school build in Barrow, this unique structure was created. With its classrooms located at one side of the school, the architect designed The Library Pod as apart of a learning street. A designated quiet zone. This free standing structure had a wooden traditional boat design in keeping with Barrows heritage. Its structure was made primarily from Plywood however, was clad in oak. The Pod is used for story telling with books being stored in the shelving behind the seating. The Library Pod allowed 15 children to sit comfortably, with an additional 15 to be seating on the removable cushioned floor.

Bute fabrics were used for the cushions for their hard wearing and durability - important in the school environment.
