Inspiration

Some of you may have seen the inspiration section in previous ‘In the Making’ newsletters. Due to the current situation we find ourselves in again (lockdown 3.0) with this newsletter we have decided to reflect purely on some of the inspiration that we have experienced at Childs & Co.

This week I’ve been reflecting back on a day 28 years ago which had a real impact and inspired me to take the path I am on today.

Recently I have been following  ‘The Tim Stead Trust’ and their ambitious fund-raising to purchase ‘The Steading’, and the Tim Stead Archive.

Tim Stead, was a Furniture maker, Sculpture, Poet and Envrionmentalist based in the Scottish Borders.

In the Spring of 1993 as a post graduate Student in Furniture Design at  Edinburgh Collage of Art, I  spent a day at ‘The Steading’. Meeting Tim and being shown around his house and talking about his work process. It was an experience which still inspires me to this day.

I recently went through my student portfolio and found some of the photos of the visit, a few of them are shown below.

The fund raising is going well and although it has reached its initial target, there is a great deal of extra work which will need to be carried out to fulfil the exciting vision of the Trust.

You can find out more about Tim Stead and ‘The Steading’ at the Timsteadtrust

More on the fund-raising is explained in this film ‘Rescuing the Steading’

Best wishes

Iain
